Submitting an opt-out request to one broker removes your record from that broker's database, but not from the downstream buyers, affiliates, or "data hygiene" partners they previously sold the data to. Why is the 45-day follow-up important?
Under the CCPA and most state privacy laws, data brokers have up to 45 days to process your removal request. If your data is still listed after that window, you have grounds to file a complaint with your state attorney general. Following up ensures your request was actually processed.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
Your tracking data is stored in your browser's localStorage. If you clear browsing data, your opt-out records will be permanently deleted. We recommend exporting to CSV regularly as a backup. The Export CSV button creates a downloadable spreadsheet of all your tracked requests.
How many data brokers should I opt out of?
Start with the 12 priority brokers listed in our Data Broker Opt-Out Guide. These are the largest people-search sites and cover the majority of your exposure. After completing those, you can work through additional brokers in our database of 100+ sites.
Can I add custom brokers not in the list?
Yes. Select "Add custom broker" from the dropdown menu and enter any broker name. This is useful for tracking opt-outs from smaller or newer sites that are not yet in our pre-built list.
Does the tracker work across different devices?
The tracker stores data in your browser's localStorage, which is specific to each device and browser. Your tracking data will not automatically sync across devices. For portability, use the Export CSV feature to back up your data, then you can reference it anywhere.
