How our content is made

PrivacyFix is a curated publication, not an automated data feed. Every guide and ranking is researched and written by our editorial team from primary sources:

• Privacy law - the text of state consumer-privacy statutes (CCPA/CPRA and equivalents) and official state attorney-general guidance.
• Data-broker opt-out processes - each broker's own opt-out page and stated verification steps, which we walk through ourselves and link to directly.
• Tool documentation - the published security architecture, audit history, and pricing of the VPNs, password managers, and data-removal services we compare.

Rankings reflect our own assessment against the criteria stated on each ranking page. They are editorial judgments, clearly labeled as such, not measurements pulled from a single dataset.

Testing and verification

Where a guide describes a process, submitting a broker opt-out, freezing a credit file, changing a privacy setting, we follow the steps ourselves before publishing, and we note when a step requires phone or email verification. Opt-out links point to the broker's own removal page so you can confirm the current process directly.

Independence

PrivacyFix does not accept payment for placement in any ranking, and a product's ranking is never influenced by whether it runs an affiliate program. Our core position is that you can do for free what paid removal services charge for, so we have no incentive to oversell any paid product. Where we mention a paid service, we say plainly what it does and does not do for you.

Freshness

Privacy law and broker opt-out processes change often. Guides carry a “last updated” date, and we revise a page when a law takes effect, a portal launches (such as California's DROP), or a broker changes its opt-out flow. A date reflects a real review of that page, we do not auto-stamp pages with the current date.

Corrections

If you find an error, a dead opt-out link, an outdated price, a changed process, or a claim you can't verify, tell us at our contact page. We investigate every report, and when we change a page in response we update its “last updated” date. Getting the details right matters more to us than being first.
